This format is all about showing a quick transformation ... taking something very ordinary, something people see every day and don’t think much about, and turning it into something way better, more exciting, thanks to the product/service/app.

It’s a powerful way to highlight the benefit the product can bring.

At the same time, it shows a strong, unexpected use case that most people wouldn’t have thought of on their own. That surprise effect makes it feel fresh and clever, and it naturally makes people want the product.

Examples

Example 1 - (6.5M views) - the product is an AI App that you can use, among other things, to transform your photo into these boxes we have seen everywhere

Example 2 - (3.2M views) - another transformation made possible by the AI app promoted here

Example 3 - (1.9M views) - different AI app, different feature presented with a before/after transition

Example 4 - (4.4M views) - how to turn a leaf into a butterfly, thanks to the pens promoted here

Example 5 - (0.5M views) - how to turn your boring bath into a luxury jacuzzi spa ... thanks to the product promoted, one more time

Why it's good for conversion

This format works well for conversion because it taps into contrast: the “before” sets a low baseline, so the “after” feels more impressive and satisfying.

Psychologically, people project themselves into the transformation: “I have that boring thing… I want that better version” .

The surprise twist also creates a little dopamine hit, which makes the product feel more exciting and clever … not just useful, but cool.

How to execute properly

Start with something painfully normal, so plain it feels invisible. Don’t dress it up; the duller, the better.

Make sure it’s something the viewer can easily relate to, like a common object or daily habit they barely notice.

Then flip it, the transformation should feel clever, not flashy. Avoid perfect reveals; let it feel like a creative shortcut or smart hack.

Keep the camera work tight and intentional, like you’re revealing a secret. Don’t explain, just show. Let the viewer fill in the meaning themselves.

A good trick is making the viewer think, “Wait, why didn’t I think of that?” - that sense of cleverness gets attached to the product.
