How to use this format?

It's a very classic format and it has lot of variations.

You’re creating content that looks like it’s made to go viral, fun, lighthearted, super entertaining, and easy to enjoy. The kind of video people like without even thinking.

But the trick is, your offer is always there in the background.

For example, if you run a restaurant, you can film a funny prank that takes place inside your space. While people are watching the prank, they’re also seeing your restaurant, its vibe, its decor, without you ever having to say “come eat here.”

Examples

Example 1 - (27.2M views) - this is just fun content, with a giant capybara ; the "product" here is actually the gaming zone in the background

Example 2 - (6.9M views) - fun content, made by the restaurant you can see in the background

Example 3 - (77M views) - probably not a lot of people realized it, but it's actually an ad for the Meta glasses

Example 4 - (2M views) - fun drama ... but it's actually an add for the app that can help you discover whether your partner is on Tinder

Example 5 - (2.9M views) - another fun drama and yes it's an ad for the same product

Example 6 - (10.3M views) - a little fun "comparison game", it's a not-so-subtle ad for a learning language app

Example 7 - (96.7M views) - a Mr. Beast style "challenge", super entertaining (but he's actually selling the toy cars displayed here)

Example 8 - (4M views) - this dirt bike looks super fun - maybe because it's an ad for it?

Example 9 - (89M views) - a nice challenge ... and yes the toy car here is for sale

Example 10 - (192M views) - incredible shot, right? this IG account actually links to Amazon camera gear through affiliate partnerships

Why it's good for conversion

This format is powerful for conversions because people are laughing or entertained, so their guard is down. They’re not in “buyer” mode. They absorb your offer without resistance.

Psychologically, it works through association: your app / product/service becomes tied to a good feeling.

Also, it fits perfectly into the short-form entertainment vibe of TikTok and Instagram.

It blends into the scroll, so people watch without realizing they’re being shown a product. That means your conversion rate might be lower since the pitch is subtle, but your reach is way higher (it’s entertaining, so it gets shared / liked / commented way more than a branded ad).

In the end, even if fewer people convert percentage-wise, you often get more total conversions simply because way more people saw it.

It’s subtle, but sticky.

How to execute properly

Make your space look real, not perfect, things like half-drunk drinks, someone walking by, or background noise make it feel alive.

Time your funniest or most interesting moment after the viewer thinks it’s coming … this keeps them watching. Show your product or space in the background or in reflections, not directly in the center.

Let people notice it themselves. Use your brand’s colors quietly, like in clothes or props, so they stick without being obvious.

And when you edit, leave little things slightly hidden, viewers love to feel like they spotted something others missed.
